IHSS&IWA26 / BRNO / CZECHIA / 23–28 August 2026 BOOK OF ABSTRACTS 118 NOM and Aquatic Systems Thursday, 27 August 2026 / Hall C active activated carbon filtration) were applied to reclaimed water prior to infiltration. These different water types were then continuously infiltrated into MAR mimicking sand columns. Water samples were analyzed for 32 indicator TOrCs, DOC, and the excitation-emission matrix (EEM) was measured. A parallel factor analysis (PARAFAC) model was developed, validated with split-half analysis and the resulting individual NOM components were identified by using the online spectral library “OpenFluor” [6]. The results of the PARAFAC model revealed five components, representing both refractory, humic fractions, and more biodegradable proteins. Preliminary analysis reveals that differences in protein removal within the individual columns translate to different biotransformation of certain TOrCs. The findings can guide the selection of suitable pretreatment methods, supporting the design of new MAR systems and the optimization of existing ones to enhance biological TOrCs removal.
