IHSS&IWA26 / BRNO / CZECHIA / 23–28 August 2026 BOOK OF ABSTRACTS 130 NOM and Aquatic Systems Thursday, 27 August 2026 / Hall C including SUVA, biogenic content, saturation level, and oxygen content. DOM aromaticity and oxygenation emerged as key descriptors of dissolved organic matter variability, strongly influencing the relative proportions of THM and HAA species formed. The specific formation potential of TCAA is correlated with DOM aromaticity, whereas TCM and DCAA formation appears to depend more on the oxygen content of the organic matter. These findings align with recent studies demonstrating that a higher average oxidation state of carbon in organic matter can reduce TCM formation [2]. The analysis further reveals interdependencies between DOC concentration and DOM characteristics suggesting that biodegradation and related transformation processes that preferentially remove highly oxygenated aromatic fractions play a central role in regulating DOC levels in these watersheds. These transformations also influence DBP composition following chlorination, with implications for toxicity and potential human health risks. References J. Orlova, F. Amiri, A. K. Bourgeois, J. M.
