IHSS&IWA26 / BRNO / CZECHIA / 23–28 August 2026 BOOK OF ABSTRACTS 270 Poster Session / Technologies and Applications Hall A were conducted under both ultrapure water conditions and simulated natural water conditions (using humic acid) to evaluate the PFOA removal efficiency and selectivity in comparison with commercial activated carbon. During this process, the solid yield was 22.8% when converting spent coffee grounds into biochar via conventional pyrolysis, whereas hydrothermal carbonization resulted in a markedly higher yield of up to 67.4%, depending on the reaction conditions. The nitrogen-doped activated carbon developed in this study exhibited enhanced PFAS adsorption performance compared to non-doped activated carbons. These findings are expected to contribute to the high-value upcycling of spent coffee grounds through artificial humification and the advancement of water treatment technologies. References 1. O.O.D.
